After Saying Her Son’s First Birthday Was More Important Than Her Mother-In-Law’s 50th, A Woman Goes To Reddit, Asking If She’s In The Wrong
Family can be difficult, and this woman went to Reddit, asking users if she was in the wrong for calling her mother-in-law a crybaby after she complained that her 50th birthday was more important than her grandson's first birthday.
The internet responded, and the answers were shocking.
Two People And One Birthday
After giving birth to her firstborn on the same date her mother-in-law was born, some issues came to light in the family. Long story short, the mother-in-law was not thrilled.
Apparently, she loves celebrating her birthday and didn't want to share it with anyone.
The Mother-In-Law's Birthdays Are Lavish
The mother-in-law loves putting on a show with hair, makeup, an open bar, and a whole lot of other preparations.
According to the daughter-in-law, her 40th birthday party was literally the size of a wedding!
Refusing To Share The Day
Fast-forward one year, and a huge issue came up: the mother-in-law's 50th birthday and the baby's first birthday. The soon-to-be 50-year-old wanted her daughter-in-law to change the date of her child's party so the day could be all about her.
Of course, the daughter-in-law was not having it.
The Family Drama Started
The new mother was very excited to have her son's party on his actual birthday and didn't want to move the date, even for her mother-in-law.
Of course, family drama ensued once the older woman realized she wouldn't be the queen bee of the day.
She Tried To Negotiate
After putting her foot down and refusing to move the date, the daughter-in-law asked if they could negotiate. She said they could have her son's birthday in the afternoon and the 50th birthday party at night.
That wasn't going to work.
The Father-In-Law Stepped In
This is where things got messy. The father-in-law stepped in, telling his daughter-in-law that her "son isn't the end all be all and that she was born first."
They even went as far as saying he wouldn't even remember the day.
The Final Straw
At that point, the daughter-in-law explains to Reddit that she had had enough, calling her mother-in-law a "crybaby" and to "build a bridge and get over it."
After calling her mother-in-law a "crybaby," she asked Reddit if she went too far with the name-calling.
The One Year Old Is The Most Mature...
Amazingly, Reddit totally thought the daughter-in-law was in the wrong!
One user even went as far as saying, "amazing that the 1yo is the most mature person in this story."
Commenters Sided With The In-Laws
Most of the commenters agreed that both women were extremely stubborn and that a 50th birthday is a milestone, whereas, as the mother-in-law said, the baby wouldn't even remember his party.
The responses are most likely not what she wanted to hear.
None Of The Family Is Going to The First Birthday
After telling her mother-in-law that her son's first birthday was more important than hers pretty much put the nail in the coffin.
The family thought it was too much and refused to attend the first birthday.
Reddit Sided With The In-Laws
And, as it turned out, Reddit was team in-laws, telling the young mother that she was stubborn and immature for tossing aside her mother-in-law's milestone 50th birthday.
None of the commenters held back either.
She Didn't Take The High Road
One commenter wrote, "Milestone birthdays are a big deal, even for adults."
She then went on to tell the mother that she was definitely in the wrong solely because she didn't take the high road and called her mother-in-law a crybaby.
"...You're [Wrong]"
Another commenter jumped in, saying, "I was going to say everyone sucks here, but because of your reasoning, you're [wrong]."
"No, because he's a little kid, his birthday is not more important, especially since he's only one and won't even understand what's happening."
"It's About You"
Other commenters pointed out that a first birthday party isn't really about the child at all but the parents.
One user said, "This isn't about your one-year-old; it's about you."
