The procedure isn't all that painful, and it's pretty simple.
One Dad Ended Up In The Dog House For Doing It, Though
The 23-year-old mother of the child took to Reddit to ask people for advice on the issue.
She was upset that her husband had taken their one-year-old daughter to get her ears pierced.
However, He'd Had It On His Mind For A While
Since their baby girl was about 6 months old, the father had been talking about wanting to pierce her ears.
His sisters' ears had been pierced when they were young, and he thought it was a nice accessory for their daughter to have.
The Mother Was Not Here For It
The mother explained that from the moment he brought it up to all the times he mentioned it again, she was adamant that they would not pierce their little girl's ears. She said, "I'm personally against babies getting their ears pierced for a variety of different reasons."
She cited reasons such as it being painful, that the ears are still growing, and it can be difficult to care for the piercing to avoid infection.
He Mentioned It A Few More Times
Even after her initial shutdown, the father spent the next few months trying to change her mind.
After a while, however, the wife noted that he stopped bringing it up, so she assumed he had gotten the message.
The Mom Had To Head Out Of Town For A Few Days
When their daughter was one year old, her mother had to go home to her father's place to help him out.
During that time, her daughter and her husband, who works from home, were alone together.
It Hit The Fan When She Got Home
The mom got back from her trip one week later. She explained, "Yesterday, I came home and, when I went to go give my daughter a hug, I saw that she had two big studs in her ears."
When she bent down, she saw the two little stud earrings in her daughter's ears.
She Went Right To The Confrontation
After securing her daughter in the playpen, the wife ran downstairs to confront her husband about the pierced ears and cussed him out.
His defense was that he thought, once the mother had seen how pretty the earrings looked, that she would change her mind about them.
Both Sides Think They Are Right
The wife is upset that her husband clearly went behind her back to pierce their daughter's ears.
The husband argues that it's his daughter too, and he should be able to make a decision like this. He also called his wife a prude for her mindset.

Most people pointed to that problem not quite being the piercing itself, but the fact that her husband had purposely gone behind her back knowing she was against it.
Others pointed out that earrings are, at the end of the day, not a necessity to a baby, and it was his own selfish interests that drove him to get the piercings done.

Parenting, on the whole, is hard, but it's even harder when you're working against the person who is in the trenches with you.
