‘I Was Livid,’ Says Wife Whose Husband Changed Diaper On Restaurant Table
Babies aren't exactly known for being courteous to your schedule, so when they go to the bathroom at an inconvenient time, you've just got to deal with it. You manage the best you can, especially when you're out in public.
"The best you can," however, doesn't usually include your husband changing a baby's diaper on the table in a restaurant for all the other diners to witness.
It Was Supposed To Be A Nice Dinner
Reddit user Vicky0034______ has been married to her husband for 14 months, and after feeling a little distant from her hubby, she asked if they could go out for a nice dinner.
Her husband agreed, so she made reservations at a new restaurant they'd both been wanting to try.
An Unexpected Guest Came With Him
She was coming from work, so she met her husband at the restaurant for dinner, but he wasn't alone.
"I walked in and saw my husband sitting and his niece in a car seat by the table." Apparently, his sister had to work unexpectedly and asked if she'd watch his niece because no one else was available.
Her Husband Is Really Close To His Family
The Reddit user says her husband is really close to his family and absolutely adores his one-year-old niece.
"He always babysits whenever he's got nothing to do" and she helps out "with whatever I can."
The Restaurant Choice Is Problematic With A Baby
It's not that his wife doesn't want his niece to come to dinner with them. The problem is that the wife "noticed the restaurant staff were giving us looks since it's not a child-friendly restaurant."
When she arrived, the baby was still asleep, but the wife was worried she might start to cry at some point.
The Crying Comes Next
The couple orders their meals, but the baby is apparently looking for something because she beings to cry, causing the Reddit poster's husband to attempt to calm her down.
He also apparently "kept asking the waitress about stuff they don't have" to feed the baby, and at one point he even began to sing a song from the movie Moana.
Escaping To The Bathroom
Feeling uncomfortable with the looks the people around them were giving to her husband and her, she decided to go to the bathroom.
While in the bathroom, she suddenly heard her husband "arguing loudly" with someone.
What Could Her Husband Be Yelling About?
When she emerged from the bathroom, to her horror she saw that her husband "was actually trying to change his niece's diaper on the table."
The waitress was arguing with him, which eventually led the manager to come over and ask the couple to leave the restaurant.
"I Was Livid"
The couple left the restaurant, and once they were outside, the wife admitted that she blew up because she was livid.
She asked why her husband had to change the baby at a table while people were eating, and talked about how embarrassed she was that he ruined their dinner and got them kicked out.
He Could Have Just Told Her The Baby Was Coming
The entire issue could have been avoided had her husband just told her ahead of time that he was bringing his niece along.
In her own post as well as in response to other comments, his wife writes multiple times that she would have been happy to pick a more child-friendly restaurant if she had known.
Her Husband Fought Back
Rather than seeing her side of it, her husband started to argue with her and claimed that she was acting like one of the students that he teaches in middle school after she refused to get in the car with him.
He even went so far as to grade her a "0/10 for my reaction" and claimed that he was just trying to help his sister, and she was the one who picked a bad restaurant.
She Took An Uber Instead
The wife decided to take an Uber home on her own rather than riding with her husband, while he went to drop the baby back off at his sister's.
He then called her to say that it was unfair of her to take an Uber home separately and that she shouldn't make him "feel guilty for wanting to help."
He Blames The Whole Thing On Her
As far as a resolution goes, we haven't been given an update. The husband blames the whole incident on his wife because he thinks people "should mind their own business in a public place."
Everyone on Reddit, however, feels she was in the right. What do you think?
