Daughter Gets Email From Her Deceased Father, With Special Instructions To Follow
If you received an email from someone that you knew had passed away months before, would you be nervous about opening it?
Alyssa Mendoza was understandably freaked out when she received an email from her dad 10 months after he passed away, but she’s thrilled now that she read it instead of sending it to the junk folder. In June 2020, Aly shared the story of how her father contacted her from the dead so she could plan a party for her mother.
Preparing For His Passing
Before his passing in 2019, Aly’s father was ill and struggling with chronic kidney disease. As hard as he fought to stay alive, he eventually passed away just two days after his wife’s birthday, and two days before his daughter’s.
A Final Gift For His Wife
Due to the nature of his disease, Mr. Mendoza had time to prepare for his death in some ways, one of which was to make sure that he could do one final thing for his wife.
Getting The Whole Family Involved
While he wasn’t sure if he was going to make it to their 25th wedding anniversary, he knew that he wanted his wife to celebrate—which is where his email to his daughter comes into play.
The First Step Was Opening It
Approximately three weeks before what would have been her parents’ 25th anniversary, Aly received an email from her now-deceased father detailing everything she needed to know to execute the perfect party for her mom.
Follow My Instructions
All Aly had to do to make her mother's wedding anniversary a special day was to follow her father's instructions. He'd thought of everything (and more), so he could have his daughter recreate the day he wished he could've given his wife.
Covering All His Bases
Not only had Aly's father arranged for this party to happen, but he also told his daughter he had arranged for a florist to prepare flowers for every Valentine's Day, June 10th (their wedding anniversary), and August 19th (his wife's birthday) in the coming years.
Hints Of Hope
In parts of his email to Aly, Bing referenced the coming months in a more positive manner, making comments about how he hoped to be there by this day came around. He was hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.
A Message From Her Husband
While he sent the email to Aly with instructions, Bing also made sure to include parts that were specifically meant to be shared with his wife, which Aly was in charge of delivering to her mom.
The Most Important Instruction
Aly sent a photo of the email to others, acknowledging what all of us were thinking too: it really does seem like something that's pulled straight out of a movie.
Do As You're Told
Just as any daughter would in this situation, Aly went to work getting everything organized per her father's instructions: "Our helper and I started setting up for mom's surprise at 11:00 p.m. last night (June 9th) and finished at 5:30 a.m. just in time for mom's daily alarm (6 a.m.)"
A Bittersweet Day
"Of course my mom cried because she misses the love of her life, but I could see how happy everything made her because she knew that everything was planned by my dad," shared Aly.
He Thought Of Everything
"He literally thought of everything to make his great love feel all his love." No detail was forgotten by Bing, down to the foods she would like to eat and the flowers she loved the most.
Her Anniversary Bouquet
"The flowers: My dad picked the flowers in her bouquet. White roses are special to my parents because when my dad was courting her, my mom had two suitors. She told herself that whoever gives her white roses was 'the one' and obviously it was my dad who gave her white roses. Pink roses because dada knows that mamu loves light pink roses."
Sharing Her Story With The World
A video taken by Aly on the morning of her parents' anniversary was posted on Reddit on top of the other places Aly had shared it, and unsurprisingly, the response was overwhelmingly positive to Bing's sweet gesture for his wife.
She'll Always Have Her Husband With Her
Aly appreciates that even though her parents couldn't physically be together on their anniversary, "He was still able to surprise and make my mom happy. Not even death could stop my dad from loving my mom and showing her how much she meant to him."
There's no doubt that this is a day his wife will never forget, and a memory she can cherish forever.
