Babysitter Quits After Reading Texts Between Mom And Dad About Her
Finding a reliable babysitter that you're actually willing to trust your children with on a regular basis is no easy task. It can take a couple of trial runs before you find the right one, and even then, they're probably not perfect.
As much as you may like your sitter, there are probably some things you still have complaints about. Complaints you'd share with say, your husband? This is what happened when one wife's texts to her husband were read by the sitter.
The Troubles With Texting
There are plenty of text messages you would send or conversations that you would have with your spouse that you wouldn't ever want repeated to others.
Your complaints about your mother showing up an hour earlier than you expected, a comment about a friend who annoyed you, or maybe even some private texts about your babysitter.
They Thought She Was A Great Babysitter
One mom posted a story on Reddit about her babysitter, who watches her two young girls while she and her husband go to work.
She writes that the babysitter has "always been great," and even brings her own daughter with her every day.
A One-Time Pass
One day the babysitter was about 10 minutes late showing up to their house which ended up making the mom late, so she sent a text to her husband about it.
It had never happened before, she apologized, and the wife "thought we were all good."
The Day After The Incident
The next day, the babysitter lets the wife know that while the sitter was helping one of her daughters on the iPad, some text messages popped up that were exchanged between husband and wife.
The first texts that popped up were about the time that the sitter was late, with the wife complaining she'd been late to work.
But She Didn't Stop Reading
Apparently, those first few texts were enough to motivate the sitter to keep reading the private text message exchange.
She read all of their texts from the past month, including a text where the wife was joking that the sitter had eaten all of the Oreos.
It Wasn't Actually Supposed To Be An Issue
When it came to the text about the Oreos, the Reddit poster writes that "it was just funny banter," and that she got over it quickly.
She wasn't ever planning on addressing the issue with the babysitter.
Giving Her Notice
After informing the woman that she had read the text messages, the babysitter doled out some more news: she was quitting.
She texted to say she was quitting the night before she was supposed to watch the kids, and it was because of those texts.
Guilty, But Violated
The babysitter said she was "really hurt" that the wife would complain about her to her husband.
The wife wrote that she feels horrible, but at the same time, she feels violated that the woman read through private messages.
An Apology Didn't Make Anyone Feel Better
The mom says that she apologized to the babysitter, but she's still not going to be coming back to watch the kids.
The wife still feels guilty too, but more importantly, she wants to know if she should feel bad.
Reddit Votes "No" To Feeling Bad
In the Reddit thread, the commenters were quick to agree that the wife was not in the wrong here.
The babysitter shouldn't have been reading the texts, and while it's awkward that they happened to be about her, nothing she said was unfair or rude, it was just the truth.
