Self-Admitted “Lazy” Mom Shows Her House After 4 Days Of Not Cleaning And People Are Shook
We know all too well that you can't choose your family. Not every parent is going to be the "World's Best Dad/Mom" that you see on cable TV.
At the end of the day, parents are just people too— for better or for worse.
We Always Try To Avoid Inheriting Our Parent's Toxic Traits
Some parents choose to ignore their toxic traits while their children spend their lives trying not to inherit them.
Other parents, especially in today's constantly evolving society, are more willing to look their shortcomings in the face and try to hold themselves accountable.
Social Media Is A Space For Parents To Connect
Problems that used to be shied away from are being talked about openly in different spaces, particularly on social media.
Parents on social media are willing to share their daily challenges and even offer a look inside their lives when it far is less than "aesthetic."
Parent-Content Pages Risk Facing Non-Stop Judgment
Still, those parents who choose to share their personal lives on social media run the risk of inviting negative attention into their lives.
Their content allows for strangers (both with and without kids) to view, comment, and pass judgment on their parenting style.
Bri James Shares BTS Looks Of Her Family Life On TikTok
A mom-of-4 named Bri James is a mommy-vlogger on TikTok. She gained a following of over 90K people by sharing her unfiltered view of life as a "messy" mom.
Her social media account, called @messymamma4, often features videos of her sometimes-chaotic home life in a 6-person household.
A Viral Video Revealed The Family Home After 4 Days Of Not Cleaning
Bri chooses to share both the good and the bad of family life but it doesn't come without negative attention.
One video has gone viral online showing the inside of the family home after 4 days of not cleaning anything.
"This Is Not For Views"
The caption on the 22-second clip says "I will block those who are mean. This is to keep me accountable not for views."
Even if the intention of the video wasn't to get views online, it certainly brought them. Currently, over 17 million people have watched the original clip.
"I Know I'm Gonna Get Roasted"
As the video begins, Bri pans the camera around her family's living area. She says "I know I'm gonna get roasted, I just know it."
Before continuing "But this is what happens when two really lazy adults have 4 kids and don't clean up after themselves."
The Disheveled Rooms Were The Result Of Not Picking Things Up For 4 Days
As she walks through the rooms littered with toys, clothing, utensils, and dishes, she explains to viewers "Four days guys."
"I have not done dishes or picked things up for four days and this is what my house looks like."
"It Is Not Dirty, It Is Simply Messy"
The mom-of-4 then sternly says "It is not dirty. It is simply messy, OK?"
The video continues to pan around the living room area, showing two small children wandering around in the background.
People Were Not Convinced
While Bri insisted in her original clip that her house wasn't "dirty" commenters had very different opinions and they let her know.
People were quick to point out that unwashed dishes are definitely considered dirty and likely even unhygienic.
She Sets Out To Clean The House
Nearing the end of the video, Bri declares "So, that's what I'm gonna do today" meaning she was planning to clean the house.
The "mess" she's referring to is about what one could expect in an unkempt family home.
The Mess Was A Combination Of Daily-Life Things
Children's toys, empty packages, leftover dishes, clothing, and random electronics litter the ground and furniture.
The kitchen counter is piled high with dishes, pots, pans, and food debris.
Commenters Called Out The Mom
The mom says she posted the video online as a means of holding herself accountable, knowing full well that she was inviting in the judgment of total strangers.
She never expected the video to get as viral as it did, generating over 67K comments from people weighing in on Bri's parenting.
People Were Divided On Whether This Was Acceptable Behavior For A Parent
The "honest" video created quite the discussion, to say the least. People were either strongly against the state of the house or willing to cut the mom some slack.
There certainly wasn't a debate about the size of the mess, it was clear to viewers that things had gotten away from the parents.
Commenters Were Not Kind To Bri
People were more concerned about whether allowing a house to get to that state could be considered good parenting.
Still, some people were still supportive of the mom and her decision to share the truth about her life.
The Mom Shared Her House Cleaning Routine
Bri put her gloves on and got to work on cleaning her house top to bottom.
To fend off the haters from her original video she filmed the entire cleaning process to prove that she was in fact capable of cleaning her house.
In A Series, The Mom Tackles The House Mess
In a four-part series, Bri shows the time-lapsed process of cleaning her house starting with the kitchen.
She begins by taking everything off the floor and then proceeds to fill two trash bags with garbage before moving on to the dishes.
Her Daughter Helped With The Clean Up
Bri's daughter, Reagan, helps with the organizing process at one point by cleaning the cutlery drawer.
The mom even ends up babysitting two extra neighborhood children during her kitchen deep clean. Slowly the counter surfaces start to become clear again.
The Space Starts To Look A Lot Cleaner
In a second update on the deep clean, Bri shows that she's "almost done" the kitchen but admits she's "exhausted."
She shows off the uncluttered dining area where the kids are eating dinner, the newly organized playroom, and the cleaned living room before adding "I still have to vacuum."
The Mom Also Received Overwhelming Support
The mom-of-4 expected the hate on her first "messy" video but she didn't expect to receive so much support from other parents who felt like they have similarly struggled.
Bri also got shout outs from strangers for being a great mom to her young family and doing the best she can.
