The Rock’s Daughter Simone Johnson Proves She’s More Than Her Family Name, Hitting Back At Critiques Of Her WWE Moniker
Following in her famous father's footsteps, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's daughter Simone Johnson is set to make her WWE debut.
Sadly, the special occasion for the fourth-generation wrestler was met with online trolls, bashing her WWE name.
Simone Johnson Was Signed In 2020
Simone Johnson was signed by the WWE back in 2020. Unfortunately, the young wrestler sustained a knee injury, delaying her debut in the ring.
Now, in 2022, she is back and ready to start her career.
The Daughter, Granddaughter, And Great-Grandaughter Of Legends
A fourth-generation wrestler, Simone is the daughter of WWE legend Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the granddaughter of WWE Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson, and the great-granddaughter of Peter "High Chief" Maivia, also a Hall of Famer.
Now, it's Simone's turn to take on a WWE name and step into the ring.
Her Name: Ava Raine
Unfortunately, when Simone debuted her WWE name on Twitter, it was met with a lot of backlash from fans. The name: Ava Raine.
Many people believed Simone should have picked a name that connected with her father's.
People Commented On Twitter
One Twitter user commented on her moniker, saying, "Giving Simone Johnson, the daughter of THE ROCK, a new name is completely nonsensical."
"Will hold (judgment) until she debuts, but if WWE doesn't acknowledge her dad is The Rock, that's ridiculous."
Her Own Person
Simon didn't let the criticism get her down, though.
She went to Twitter, explaining that she is more than her family name; she is her own person, and no matter what she does, people will most likely bash her anyway.
Simone Comments Back
In her Tweet, Simone wrote, "I probably sound like a broken record & hopefully, this is the last I'll mention this, but I don't understand why people being portrayed as separate individuals from their family name is such a heated topic."
"A name doesn't discredit any prior accomplishments from any family."
There Is No Winning With Online Trolls
The young wrestler didn't stop there. She continued in a follow-up Tweet, saying, "I could build my entire career around my father & people would still bash me anyway."
Simone is unlikely to change her name anytime soon.
She's Grateful For The Opportunity
Even with the online trolls, Simone is excited to start a career that means so much to her family.
During an interview with WWE, she said, "To know that my family has such a personal connection to wrestling is really special to me, and I feel grateful to have the opportunity, not only to wrestle but to carry on that legacy."
