Debate Ensues After Mom Displays How Gentle Parenting ‘Doesn’t Work’
There are many different schools of thought as to what is the best way to parent when it comes to parenting.
A woman on TikTok is causing a debate after she shows that gentle parenting "doesn't work."
Testing The Gentle Parenting Theory
The video begins with her and her partner on the bed in their bedroom.
Their daughter is sitting on the floor playing with her mom's purse that she is not supposed to have.
Tries The Gentle Method
The mom decides that she will test how people say that gentle parenting is best.
In a calm voice, she politely asks her daughter twice to put her purse back. The daughter does not move.
Switching To Yelling Method
Her husband then says, "now threaten her and see what happens."
She yells "put the purse back now!" Her daughter jumps up and begins walking to put the purse away before she has even finished her sentence.
Partner Was Not Convinced
The authoritative yelling method gave her instant results versus the gentle method.
When she pans the camera over to her partner, he says, "gentle parenting my a**." He doesn't appear to believe that it works.
Gentle Parenting Does Not Work
She begins to laugh when he says that and then turns the camera around to her.
She also agrees and says that the gentle parenting method does not work based on their test.
The World Is Not Gentle
The video received over 12 million views and more than 50,000 comments.
People were rather divided on if gentle parenting was the way to go. This person felt that she should parent however she feels, as the world is not gentle.
Need To Give It Time
Another person wanted to let her know that gentle parenting does not see immediate results.
They think that she needs to allow her daughter to adjust to this type of parenting style.
The Kids Are Not On Board
This woman said that she is also trying the gentle parenting method but not seeing the results.
She seems to think that it's because her children are not being gentle with her!
Is It Really Best?
Another person in the comments wanted to let her know that just because it works does not necessarily mean that it is best.
They feel that it could cause issues in their relationship later in life.
Daughter Is Used To Yelling
This person was again thinking that the daughter did not respond to the gentle parenting because she had become accustomed to yelling.
