The Dad Who Loved To Eat Out
"When I was a kid, my dad regularly sabotaged our stove so that we would be 'forced' to go out to eat at a restaurant. We loved Pizza Inn, and my mom always nagged that we needed to 'eat something green'. My mom knew squat about anything electrical, mechanical, etc.
"Sometimes Dad flipped the switch in the circuit box or anything else he could think of to make the stove non-functional. To this day, my mom still thinks the stove we had in the '90s was flaky and intermittently faulty before we got a new one when I was in high school. By that time, family dinners were a no-go anyway due to everyone's schedules, so we no longer had to deal with the tampering of the kitchen." —Reddit
Donuts With The Suzuki Samurai
"I grew up in a fairly rural area, and when my sister and I were little, my dad would take us off-roading in snowy fields, doing donuts and the like with his Suzuki Samurai. One day, he stopped in the middle of a field and got out of the car.
"Out came a sled and some rope. He tied one end to the sled and the other end to the bumper, and with a gleam in his eye said, 'Don't tell Mom...' He then proceeded to tow us around the field at fairly high speed doing big figure 8's and circles in the powdery snow. So. Awesome." —heynicemarmot
Sneaky Nintendo Nights With Dad
"During the Nintendo years, I had a strict early bedtime along with my younger siblings... Except on the nights when my mom worked.
"On those nights, I would be allowed to sneak past my sleeping brother and sister and go downstairs to play Nintendo with my dad until we heard the garage door opening, signaling my mom's return home. At that point, I had to run back to bed and pretend I was sleeping. It was awesome." —notjena
The Time He Got Pulled Over
"My dad and I were driving through Vermont. He was speeding, but nothing unreasonable. The highway was three lanes and completely empty so he was going about 75-80 mph. A cop sees him and pulls him over. My dad rolls down the window and just as the cop leans in and opens his mouth, a car BLOWS by us going at least 100 mph.
"The cop looked up at the other car, then back at my dad, then back at the other car, then back at my dad. Then he said, 'Have a nice day.' Walked back to his car and burned out after the other guy. My dad rolled up the window, turned to me, said 'Never tell your Mom about this.' Eight years later and still haven't told her." —Corky88

The Dad Who Wanted To Give His Kid A Cool Guitar
"When I was about 10 my dad took me with him to buy a guitar (first time I had been to music shop) and bought this amazing and incredibly expensive Gibson Les Paul. My dad told me never to tell my mom how much it cost.
"Guilt got the better of him later on so he took it back but years later when I wanted a guitar he bought me a Gibson SG and told me, 'This is for all the years I missed teaching you with a decent guitar. My dad is awesome. " —squeedlyScree

Playing Hookey With Dad

"Turns out dad was back in town, and he took me and my sister to the base, took us shopping, and bought me "Donkey Kong Country" for the Super Nintendo. Best school day ever." —aapalx
Learning Handbrake Turns

"He told me not to tell her. I didn't. Best childhood moment with my dad, ever."—Reddit
Sworn To Secrecy Through A Bribe

"So we took a tiny fraction of the pile to the scrap yard and got about five hundred bucks for it. My dad handed me a $100 bill and said: 'Don't tell your mom how much we got for that stuff or she'll make us get rid of all of it.'" —AllCutUpOn
