Five-Year-Old Writes Her Parents An Essay Explaining Why She Wants To Change Her Name
Kids go through phases where they like something and then the next day change their minds. It can be a toy, a book, a movie, whatever. Every once in a while, there is something that a kid will stick to, causing their parents to listen.
This happened to Bri when her daughter Charlie wrote a persuasive essay asking for her name to be changed to Charlotte.
Bri Is Charlie's Mom, And She Shared A Video On TikTok
It's Women's History Month. Bri wanted to share a story with her viewers about why she thinks that her daughter will be a history maker.
She is very determined, dedicated, and, as you'll see, super persistent.
She Introduces Her Daughter, Charlie
Charlie had brought up the idea of changing her name to Charlotte a few times, and her parents weren't sure that the idea was going to stick.
But, as time went on, Charlie didn't drop it. She was serious about the name change.
Charlie Decided She Wanted To Do Something About It
Charlie sat down and wrote out a persuasive essay outlining the reasons why she wanted to change her name.
It finally got her parents to take a moment and think about it.
She Put A Lot Of Research In To It
She went so far as to look into the law about changing her name and its cost.
It turns out that changing your name in Indiana isn't that difficult or expensive.
She Even Started Raising The $200
Charlie started making friendship bracelets and selling them to her classmates and cheerleading friends.
It wasn't long before she had $80 saved up. She brought it to her parents to show she was serious.
It Wasn't Long Until She Raised More
Charlie had a lot of success with selling her bracelets. In a short amount of time, she raised $150!
Now, she was only $50 away from the $200 she would need to change her name.
She Just Wasn't Letting It Go
She had shown that she was dedicated to this cause. She even had her grandpa make her a new backpack with Charlotte written on it.
It was already the name that she was getting her friends to call her and the name she uses to refer to herself.
She Wrote A Letter To Her Parents
In the letter, she explained all the reasons why she wanted to change her name.
She thought it was prettier. In her letter, she goes on to say, "I don't like Charlie, Charlotte is my passion. Love, Charlie."
Her Reasons Are Pretty Valid
Charlie explains that Charlotte makes her feel strong and independent. She said, "Charlotte makes me feel pretty, Charlotte makes me feel creative, and Charlotte makes me feel loved."
Those are feelings that every parent wants their kids to feel. Bri and her husband began to consider it seriously.
In The End, She Addressed Her Dad Who Named Her
She was asking her dad, who named her, to consider what she was saying.
She finished off the letter by saying, "I've been wanting to change my name ever since I could say it."
Her Video Is Here
If you watch the video, you can find the other two parts where Bri shares the letter.
In the end, her family deiced to let her have her wish, and Charlie's mom and dad started referring to her as Charlotte.
